What will happen during my consultation?
How long will I wait from the consolation
until I can have my surgery?
  Surgery can
usually be done within 2 to 4 weeks of the final
consultation.The surgery can also be booked at a
latter date if desired by the patient.

Where is your office located? Our office is
located in downtown Winnipeg in the Medical Arts
building - a multidisciplinary medical facility.

What will surgery cost? The cost of the surgery will ultimately depend on what
type of surgery is being done. Cosmetic surgical procedures will range from
$500 and upwards.

Where will I have surgery? Surgical procedures are usually done in a private
surgical setting or they can also be offered to be done in a hospital setting.

Do I need to have someone stay with me? Patients who receive sedation or
some form of general anesthesia for their procedure will be required to have
someone pick them up from the surgical facility and drive them home. It is
recommended that an adult be available and stay with the patient for the first 24
hours.

How long will I be off work? Work restrictions and return to work will depend
on the type of surgery done and the type of occupation. Many patients can
return to work in just a few days after their procedure however larger procedures
may require over 2 weeks of recovery time.

What about anesthesia? The type of anesthetic used will depend on the type
of surgery being done and the comfort of the patient. Anesthetic types include:
Local anesthesia, Local anesthesia with sedation, Regional anesthesia (spinal)
and general anesthesia.

How much will it hurt? Most patients are very comfortable after their surgery.
Long acting local anesthetic is usually placed in the operative area at the end of
the procedure so that patients will have virtually no pain when they recover from
the anesthetic.

Will there be any scars? Any time an incision is made there will a scar. The
incisions are made as small as possible and are placed in well concealed areas
so they are not visible.

Are there any risks? Today the risks associated with surgical procedures are
very small. However, complications can occur with any type of surgery and
these will be discussed in detail with your surgeon and how they pertain to your
type of surgery.  The risks of the surgery depend upon the type of surgery being
done. Complications of cosmetic surgery are uncommon. The complications
particular to your surgery will be discussed with you at the time of your
consultation.

How experienced is Dr. Turner for the procedure I want?  How many
surgeries such as mine does Dr. Turner perform each year?
Dr. Turnr
has been practicing cosmetic surgery for over 10 years and have experience
in all types of cosmetic surgery. I have done hundreds of cosmetic surgery
procedures and the volume continues to increase every year.

What portion of your practice is devoted to cosmetic work (as opposed to
reconstructive plastic surgery)?
75% of my practice is devoted to cosmetic
and aesthetic surgery.

At which hospital does Dr. Turner have hospital privileges? Victoria
General Hospital, Health Sciences Center, St. Boniface Hospital.

May I see before and after photos of patients who have had this
surgery?
Yes.

Will the surgery be performed entirely by Dr. Turner or partly by a
surgeon in training?
All cosmetic procedures are performed by Dr. Robert
Turner.

Is your surgery facility accredited by the CAAASF?  Yes.

Is there resuscitation equipment in your surgery facility? Yes. It is always
fully equipped to meet hospital standards.

What type of anesthetic will be used?  It will depend on the type of
procedure being performed and the request of the patient. Options are: Local
anesthetic, Local anesthetic with sedation, or general anesthesia.

Who administers the anesthetic? A certified anesthetist will always provide
the anesthetic.

Does your fee include all fees related to my surgery, i.e., O.R., surgeon
fee, anesthetist fee, follow up visits?
At the time of the consultation you will
be quoted a fee for your particular surgery that will include all costs including the
surgical fee, the facility fee and anesthetic fee.

Where will the incisions be? When will the stitches/drains removed? The
incisions are made as small as possible and are always placed in a well
concealed area. The sutures are usually beneath the surface of the skin and are
self dissolving and do not require removal. If drains are used there are usually
taken out within in 24 hours.

Will you provide me with a list of drugs to avoid prior to surgery? Yes.
You will be given a complete list of medications and herbal medicines that are to
be avoided prior to surgery.

How long must I be off work? Work restrictions and return to work will
depend on the type of surgery done and the type of occupation. Many patients
can return to work in just a few days after their procedure however larger
procedures may require over 2 weeks of recovery time.

How long will swelling and bruising last? Swelling will start to decrease in
48 hours and if any bruising is present it will usually be gone in 5-10 days.

Do I need someone to stay with me while I recover? If so, for how long?
Patients who receive sedation or some form of general anesthesia for their
procedure will be required to have someone pick them up from the surgical
facility and drive them home. It is recommended that an adult be available and
stay with the patient for the first 24 hours.

When can I bathe? You can usually shower in 48 hours for most procedures.
However before an incision can be soaked in a bathtub it may be 7 to 10 days.

How many follow up visits will I need? You will be followed up on a regular
basis after your surgery until you are completely recovered and healed. You will
also be seen on a long term basis if required and are free to return to the office
at any time for questions about your surgery.

What if I don't like the results? What is your revision policy? If you require
touch up surgery to optimize your results there is usually no surgical fee but
there may be a facility or anesthesia fee. This will be discussed with you by Dr.
Turner.
